MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A South Florida man is suing the owner of the popular Los Perros restaurant chain after he claims that a racial slur was printed twice on his receipt.
According to the complaint filed Thursday, Frantz Leger, who is a black man, went to Los Perros’ Miami Beach location July 2, 2015, and received a receipt that had the racial slur printed in the order number and table number sections.

Leger claims that the restaurant told him that the system must have autocorrected his name to the racial slur, however, the complaint said the waiter resigned immediately after Leger called the restaurant to complain about discrimination.
«It’s sad that in this day and age we still see the type of discrimination alleged in the complaint,» Leger’s attorney, Michael Hanna, said in a statement. «Unfortunately, ignorance persists, and there are still people out there that think that others should be treated differently just because of their race, religion, sex, or national origin. We will not stand for this type of injustice. Thankfully, our laws make this type of conduct illegal.»
The lawsuit claims that the restaurant violated civil rights statutes, and Leger is requesting a jury trial to settle the matter.
He is seeking «an injunction against the illegal discrimination, compensatory damages, punitive damages, attorneys’ fees and costs, and any other available relief under the statues.»
According to court documents, the Florida Commission on Human Relations found that there is reasonable cause to believe that an unlawful practice occurred.
