Now, on to the show…
Pentagon, Jr. dojo segment
Pentagon is practicing his poses while speaking to his master. Spanish with English subtitles. «Master, he refuses to face me. He is not the man he once was.» A shadowy figure walks behind some Japanese paper doors.
In a low mumble, the master gurgles out, «You must destroy the man he has become.» Pentagon whines, «But I want to destroy him in the ring. I want to destroy him at Ultima Lucha.» Master gives advice, «Attack at his weakest point, his ego. Then he will have no choice but to be your sacrifice.» Pentagon replies, «No, master. Ian Hodgkinson (Vampiro’s real name) will be your sacrifice.»
Mexican Dubwiser plays us into the temple.
The Mack vs Cage
Hoss fight! Two bulls colliding with a quick pace all throughout. Vampiro became giddy more than once.
Highlights include Mack with a running suplex, delayed vertical suplex by Cage, Mack with an exploder suplex into the turnbuckles, and a discus clothesline by Cage.
The ending sequence began as Mack escaped a powerbomb and followed with a kick to the head. Mack running the ropes was met by a European uppercut from Cage. Cage running the ropes was met by a flying forearm from Mack. More rope running. Cage went for a high boot, but Mack slid underneath to roll up and over on Cage. 1, 2, 3. Mack scored the flash victory. He used his girth to stack on top of Cage to prevent a kick out. Mack, with an expression words can not describe, flipped the bird for Cage after the match.
Catrina & Team Havoc locker room segment
Havoc is alone in the locker room with his title belt when he feels a finger poke from behind. No one is present when he turns around. Back to front and Catrina is standing there face to face. Havoc is a little perplexed.
Catrina speaks, «I have a message for you. Soon, my Disciples of Death will be after your gold.» Catrina caresses the title, «But tonight, death is coming for you, Son of Havoc.» Catrina feels up Havoc’s mask and grabs his beard, «A thousand of them.»
Ivelisse hits the scene, «Back off, bitch!» Ivelisse lunges for Catrina from behind, but Catrina disappears with a smile as the lights go black.
Lights on and we see Ivelisse straddled on top of Havoc in a horizontal position. They share an awkward moment of times past and might possibly kiss. That is until Angelico comes in to spoil the mood, «Oh god, please don’t tell me you guys are getting back together.» In unison, «Shut up.»
Ringside with Vampiro featuring Pentagon, Jr.
Vampiro starts out with a bald-faced lie, «I ain’t got an attitude and I ain’t got an ego.» He apologizes to Pentagon for interfering in his business. He says that his time has past and he never should have got involved. Pentagon stone faces this apology.
Vampiro cuts to the chase and asks who is the master. Pentagon gives him a sideways glance of disgust and gives no response.
Vampiro changes course, «Okay. So I was kind of expecting you not to answer. Something was telling me that you were just going to be kind of hush hush. But that’s alright, brother. So let me take you and this interview in another direction. You’re violent, you’re aggressive, you hurt people. I get that and I get your aggressiveness. So much so, dude, it reminds me alot of me when I was younger.»
Pentagon speaks in Spanish with English subtitles. «I think we are very much alike. We both liked the pain of others. But, who are you now? Are you Vampiro or a coward?»
Vampiro gets annoyed, «Don’t you ever say that to me again. Don’t get confused. A coward I am not. Don’t push me man, because I’ll jump right now. If you want to throw down, brother, I’ll kick your ass so quick you won’t even know what happened. But I’m not like that anymore. You get it? My time has come and gone, dawg. I spent 33 years of my life in rings all over the world. Bled, cried, sweated. Lost my family and now it’s just me and my daughter. And I got a different thing going in my life. I’m a better man. My time has come and gone. 32-time world champion, and you’re sitting here calling me a coward.»
Pentagon shoots back, «If you’re not a coward, prove it! Face me at Ultima Lucha to see if it’s true. The way you talk is the way you fight.» Vampiro blows off the challenge, «Forget about it. My time has come, brother. This is your time, now!» Pentagon digs in, «I knew it. That would be your weak and pathetic response. You always were weak and pathetic. But I will show who you really are here (pokes Vampiro in the head) to the whole world and who is Pentagon, Jr. You know why? Because I am Pentagon, Jr. Zero miedo.» Pentagon tosses over his chair and gets up in Vampiro’s face. A little shove before exiting. The camera zooms in on Vampiro’s death stare.
Mil Muertes vs Son of Havoc
Catrina, Ivelisse, and Angelico were all present ringside. Ivelisse was still on crutches.
Mil charged forward once the bell rang. Havoc greeted him with a bicycle kick. Havoc surprisingly got in a good amount of offense, such as a springboard frog crossbody. Unfortunately for him, Mil felt no pain for most of it. Mil delivered the punishment for much of the match.
It didn’t take long before the action spilled out of the ring. Mil smashed Havoc’s face into the metal grate wall, threw him into the crowd chairs, smashed a chair on his back, powerbombed him onto the announce table, rammed him into Dario Cueto’s office wall, and banged his head on a stool and a trashcan.
Back in the ring, Havoc got one over on Mil by pulling the top rope down to send a running Mil crashing out of the ring. Havoc quickly followed with a suicide dive.
Back in the ring again, Havoc connected on a springboard stomp then immediately went for a standing moonsault. 1 count before Mil kicked out. Havoc went for a top turnbuckle aerial assault, but Mil goozled him to set up a chokeslam. Upon elevation, Havoc flipped out.
After Mil took control for a bit and a bite, outside tomfoolery began to occur. Catrina started eying Angelico. Ivelisse limped over to give Catrina a piece of her mind. Catrina lifted her stone high in their air. The Disciples appeared out of nowhere behind Angelico, while Ivelisse grabbed Catrina’s throat. The Disciples beat down Angelico as Catrina brought Ivelisse to her knees with a throat grab of her own. One of the Disciples used a crutch to choke Angelico and Catrina smashed Ivelisse in the head with the stone.
Havoc came for the save with a flipping aerial attack onto the Disciples. After Havoc went back into the ring, Mil delivered a clothesline, spear, and Flatliner for the victory. Mil, Catrina, and the Disciples stood tall over Havoc’s beaten body. Lick.
Texano, the Crew, & Blue Demon, Jr. in-ring promo
A mix of English and Spanish with subtitles. «I’ve never been a nice dude, but there is one thing I have always been. Mexicano! I love hurting people. I love breaking their bones. I love whipping their asses. I can’t be trusted. I am a cheater. I know. I can’t be trusted by my own family, with my own brother. But I never turn on my people. I never turn on my raza. I have been watching Chavo Guerrero mumble mumble respect Sexy Star, Mascarita Sagrada, and the legendary Blue Demon, Jr. And you know, Chavo? I don’t like them. I don’t care about them, but I hate you. I want to settle this once and for all at Ultima Lucha. And you have to Chavo, because I’m not going to take no for an answer. And I don’t care if you broke the leg. Come here, because I’m going to break the other leg.»
The Crew ambushes from behind with Kendo stick shots. Blue Demon hits the ring ready to kick ass. He ducked a double clothesline and the Crew decides to retreat out of the ring. Cisco grabs a chair and slides it into the ring. Something fishy is going on.
Blue Demon threatens the Crew with the chair then turns around to whack Texano in the head. Blue Demon strikes with a bevy of kicks to the head with his dress shoes. Blue Demon with a mic,»Hey, eyeyey. You are not Mexico. I am Mexico! And I don’t need you to fight my battles for me. But at the Ultima Lucha, you will fight… me, perro!» Texano is a bloody mess.
Atomicos match: Alberto El Patron, Sexy Star, Drago, Aerostar vs Johnny Mundo, Jack Evans, Super Fly, Hernandez
Mundo and Patron were set to square off to start until Mundo bailed. After circling the ring, Mundo went to tag Hernandez who jumped down off the apron. Super Fly as well. Jack Evans had his back turned taunting the crowd and got tagged in to his surprise. Evans did some kicks to the air then flipped. Alberto greeted him with a slap. The action was all over the place after that.
Highlights include Aerostar with a flying double knee, Aerostar with a springboard backward leap, Drago with a flying corkscrew, Sexy with a corkscrew plancha of her own, Alberto chasing Mundo up the stairs through a door, Aerostar with a springboard splash, and Sexy with a tilt-a-whirl headscissors on Mundo.
The end sequence began as Alberto cleaned house with a double knee to the back maneuver on Hernandez, whirly backbreaker to Super Fly, and an arm breaker submission to Jack Evans. Mundo came in for the save with an End of the World onto Alberto’s unprotected body. Sexy Star tried to take advantage with a flying crossbody, but Mundo caught her and used the momentum to roll over the top for a pin cover as they crashed to the mat. Mundo grabbed the tights and the ref counted to three. Mundo’s team was victorious.
Pentagon, Jr. & Vampiro post-match shenanigans
As Matt Striker and Vampiro close the show with the announcement of a face-to-face meeting between Prince Puma and Mi Muertes next week, Pentagon sneaks through the crowd and kicks Vampiro in the back of the head. Two chair shots to the back.
«Master, today, I dedicate this sacrifice to you. Because I’m going to destroy this shell of a man.» Kick to the throat. Pentagon goes to the back to bring out a gasoline can from the 1920’s. He is drenching Vampiro with the liquid.
«I am not afraid of you! You are afraid of me! I am your terror. You know what? If you don’t accept my challenge for Ultima Lucha, your family and the entire world will see you burn in flames, cabron.» Pentagon has a lit lighter in hand. «Vampirito, you have one week to decide, because I am ready and prepared to make you a sacrifice to my master. Do you want to know why? Because I am Pentagon, Jr. Zero miedo!»
Review
Very enjoyable show. It was a notch below the special episodes, but it was one of the best of the rest. The matches had pretty much non-stop action. The backstage and promos all contained pivotal moments to advance feuds.
The Pentagon, Jr. segments were fire. When he brought out the gasoline can, I accidentally popped so loud that my dad downstairs asked what I was watching. Pentagon is a perfect heel to root against. He is such a scumbag that I can’t wait to see Vampiro kick his ass. Go, Vamp, go.
The atomicos eight luchador tag match was fantastic for what it is was. There was a nice blend of action with the perfect amount of comedy.
Mil Muertes and Son of Havoc had a nice little match. I wasn’t anticipating Havoc scoring so many moves. This one suffered a tiny bit from having an obvious result. There was no way Havoc was going to pin Mil at this point in time.
I loved both times when Ivelisse stood up to Catrina. If they ever get in the ring, that is going to be intense.
Mack and Cage put on a quality hoss fight. It was hard hitting with little breaks. This was the kind of hoss fight people always hope for but get disappointed if it becomes a plodding affair. I understand not all hosses can add in the aerial moves, however, the rapid pace was what carried this match. Mack had a nice touch when he used his weight to prevent Cage from escaping the pinfall. This feud looks far from over and I’m excited for the next chapter.
Blue Demon, Jr.’s treachery against Texano was tremendous. Chavo is such a sneaky bastard to plant those seeds in Blue Demon’s mind. I’m not that familiar with Blue Demon’s past, so that moment could have been much more impactful if this is his first time as a bad guy. Does Blue Demon have a rudo history? I’m too scared of spoilers on Wikipedia to investigate.
Ultima Lucha update. It is shaping up real strong. Official bouts are Prince Puma vs Mil Muertes for the Lucha Underground championship, Johnny Mundo vs Alberto El Patron, and Drago vs Hernandez. It looks like Vampiro vs Pentagon, Jr., Texano vs Blue Demon, Jr., Team Havoc vs Disciples of Death for the Trios championship, and I imagine something with the Aztec medallions will fill out the card. They mentioned Fenix could be out for a few months, so we’ll have to see how that plays forth since he has already won a medallion. Jack Evans and Aerostar are the other medallion winners to date. It was also mentioned that Chavo has a torn hamstring.
In last week’s poll, Catrina had a commanding victory of Konnan with 76% of 170 votes as to who the voters would prefer in their corner. I voted Konnan. I’d rather deal with the possibility of betrayal than a mistress of dark magic.
Thoughts and theories about the episode? Which was your favorite match? How did you react to the gasoline scene? If Vampiro accepts the challenge of Pentagon, Jr., who will you be rooting for? Enjoy video of the atomicos match, which includes Pentagon’s crackling confrontation with Vampiro to end of the show.
